Mary Koenigsberger “Mrs. K”

Good Shepherd Program Catechist and Teachers Aide

St. Michael School is proud to offer the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program for grades K-4 including a pre-school program for ages 3-5. The children in pre-school meet 1 1/2 hours every Thursday morning from 10:00-11:30am. The grade school children meet 1 hour once a week. The cost of the pre-school program is $150 per school year.

The Good Shepherd catechesis is a unique program not only teaching children religion but providing ways to help each child develop a personal relationship with God. This program weaves the truths of the Catholic faith into the children and seeks to foster in them a sense of mystery, wonder and joy.

Parables and hands on materials are used to help the children come onto God's presence. The children learn about the sacraments and are introduced to tangible elements of the Mass through the use of a miniature altar.

Our program is taught by catechist Mrs. Mary Koenigsberger. Below are some comments and observations she has made here at St. Michael School:

"I am continually amazed and humbled by the children’s responses to God’s word. Recently I read the creation story to the Kindergarten and 1st grade students.  We talked about each gift God has created and placed on the earth as it is found in the bible.  During meditation I asked, “Where were you before God created you?”  One 1st grade child responded, “I was in the heart of God.”  I discussed the creation story with the 4th grade students explaining how God carefully prepared the world; first, everything was created, put in proper order and then given to man as a gift.  I had them imagine what it would be like to be the first person on earth and what kinds of questions they may have had as they looked around at the orderly, beautiful, and perfect world.  The children came up with the following questions –

“Who am I?   Where am I? Why am I here? and Do I deserve all of this?”
