St. Michaels School graduate, Christina Santos of WSP, has received a
University of Minnesota - Twin Cities President Student Leadership and
Service Award.  This award, given to only 1/2 of 1% of the student body,
recognizes students who exhibit exceptional leadership and service to the
University and the surrounding community.  Santos, who received her nursing
degree this spring, has volunteered at Children's and St. Joseph's
Hospitals and with an after-school tutoring program for high school Latino
youth.  She was also a member of the University's Nursing College Board for
2 years and volunteered as a camp attendant for the Muscular Dystrophy
Association.

Alumni Support Critical - Donations Always Welcome

St. Michael's School has always been blessed with generous donors since it
began classes in 1884.  Tuition today only covers about 50% of the costs to
operate our school and we rely on our Parish community and gifts to make up
the difference.  We know you appreciate the value of a good Catholic
education.  Please send your donation to:

Thank you for your continued support of St. Michael's.

Hello!!
I was one of your 6th graders - 1985-86 I think-- probably your best class ever :)

I won the bike at the patrol picnic that year!
I was surfing the internet today and decided to see if St. Mikes had a web page.  It has been so long since I have been there.  So many memories.  I also see my Kindergarten teacher Jill Peck is still teaching.

Please say hello to her for me.
I don't see any of my other teachers (Sister Mary Sarto, Sister Jean, Mrs Lesch, Sister Beneva, Sister St. Luke, Sister Eugenia).  If you have contact with any of them please tell them I said hello.
I graduated from the College of Saint Scholastica in 1997 with a BA in Dietetics.  A few years after college I decided to start my own business.  I now own a personal training and nutrition counseling business.  Just recently I have also started a screen printing business with a friend.
My sister is Jennica.  She graduated from saint Kates with a degree in Occupational Therapy.

She is working as a manager for an OT company here in the cities.
Anyway - just wanted to say hello and thank you and the other teachers at St. Mikes for helping

my sister and I lay down a good foundation for the future.
Have a great week - Ben

Received February 2011:

Dear Mrs. Charley,

I am a former student of yours.  My maiden name is Elizabeth Sheila Green.  I went by Beth.  I was in your sixth grade class in 1976.  I attached a photo of my 4th grade class, in case you don't remember me.  I am in the front row, far right.  I am wearing the gingham dress and black patent leather mary-janes.  I had red hair.

I teach first grade now at a Catholic School in the Diocese of Charleston, SC.  In 2000, I was teacher of the year.  I have been a teacher for fifteen years and I often wonder how my former students are doing after they have moved on.  I love it when former students drop a note or pop in for a visit.  With this in mind and with Catholic Schools week coming up soon, I decided to do a search to see if St. Mike's was still there.  I am delighted to see that St. Micheal's School is continuing its tradition of excellence and especially pleased that you are principal. ( I just about fell out of my chair when I clicked on administration and saw your photo there!)

I want you to know that you were a wonderful teacher.  I remember you being creative, consistent and caring in your methods and manner.  When my family had to move to Alabama in the middle of the school year ( Dec. 1976) you organized a going away party for me and took up a collection to purchase a little wrist watch.  Later that year, you also mailed me a yearbook which I treasured.  I am sure I still have it packed away somewhere.  (If you do not have a copy still, I will scan it for you and send you some of the pictures if you like.)  The move was difficult for me, as I was rather quiet and shy at that age.  I was the youngest of four children in my family.  I have two older brothers, Patrick and John and an older sister, Mary-Gail.  They all attended St. Michael's.  I never wrote you a thank you note at the time, but want you to know how much your kindness meant to me.  So often in life we do not have the opportunity to know whether what we do makes a difference in peoples' lives.  I want you to know that, truly, you made a difference.

Thank You,

Beth Warren
