Religious Education Program

Mrs. Sue Walker directs the Religious Education Program (also called the Faith Formation or CCD Program) for Catholic youth, grades 1-8, who attend public school. This program assists parents in their primary role as educators of their children in the Faith, and includes the Sacramental Preparation for First Confession, First Communion and Confirmation for all Catholic youth in our parish. 2009-2010 Confirmation Program

Dear Parents,

I’m very excited for our program this year! It is an honor to be able to reach out to your families in assisting with your child’s religious education. Your child’s catechesis is of great importance to our catechist and myself,  and so is establishing the relationships with you needed to make that education happen. Two text I think are central to understanding what  religious education is and it’s importance  are found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church in the very beginnings of the book. They, in a way, sum up our Religious Education program’s mission:

5. "Catechesis is an education in the faith of children, young people and adults which includes especially the teaching of Christian doctrine imparted, generally speaking, in an organic and systematic way, with a view to initiating the hearers into the fullness of Christian life."

7. "Catechesis is intimately bound up with the whole of the Church's life. Not only her geographical extension and numerical increase, but even more her inner growth and correspondence with God's plan depend essentially on catechesis."

We are, more particularly, continuing our use of the Faith and Life series published by Ignatius Press. We are also introducing the Diocese of Harrisburg’s child safety program, Formation in Christian Chastity. More information on each of these programs are found later in this handbook.

I’m also pleased to introduce our teaching staff found on page four. Please give your support to these generous and well-qualified volunteers!  Also, please  continue to pray for our program! Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom, Pray for us!
