The Fifth Grade Class graduated from the D.A.R.E program last Tuesday. Two students were chosen to read their essays, congratulations to all the students.
D.A.R.E.
D.A.R.E. is very important for everybody to learn. I learned a lot, from meeting good friends or learning dangers around us.
In Lesson 8, we wore the drunk goggles. It was a very good experience of how I would balance. I fell down a lot. Even when we do something fun we learned something. D.A.R.E. reminded me a lot about my relative who I was very close to but passed.
In Lesson 2, we learned about tobacco. Tobacco has 200 known poisons, maybe even more. We all got to make our own cigarette warning, too. I read it to my family, and they were very interested in it. Then we learned about alcohol and how bad it is to drink too much. Officer Mike said sometimes if you get too relaxed after drinking too much and get too comfortable and lay down, you could swallow your tongue and choke on it.
When we learned about peer pressure, I learned that peer pressure can be good or bad. There are four different kinds of peer pressure: bully, tense, positive and unsure.
When we got to learn about marijuana, I thought back to the tobacco lesson and thought . . .why is tobacco not illegal when tobacco is just as bad as marijuana?
D.A.R.E. was a very important lesson, and every kid should learn it. We should always remember that anything can happen at any time, and we should be prepared.

D.A.R.E.
This essay is about DARE and my experience learning about DARE. DARE stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. It also can stand for define assess respond evaluate. Define means to describe the problem challenge or opportunity. Assess means to look at your choices. Respond means to make a choice. Evaluate means to review your decision. You can use these tips to help you make good choices.
Making good choices is important because if you don't make good choices your life could end up being very bad. Some examples of good choices are: not doing drugs or drinking too much alcohol and not smoking tobacco or pot (marijuana).
Drinking alcohol is definitely not good for you and if you think it's cool you're wrong. In fact only sixteen percent of eighth graders have tried alcohol. Alcohol affects your brain, mouth, throat, lungs, heart, and liver.
Tobacco is not a good choice either, and it's also not cool in school because only seven percent of eighth graders have tried it. Tobacco also affects everything that alcohol affects.
Marijuana isn't cool either because guess what only seven percent of eighth graders have tried it. Marijuana affects everything alcohol and tobacco affect which if you've forgotten they are your brain mouth, throat, lungs, heart, and liver.
If you ever buy a pack of cigarettes there will be a surgeon general's warning on the box and it might say something like: warning this contains at least 200 KNOWN POISONS, and NICOTINE if you take this you have a risk of LUNG CANCER.
If you are wondering what nicotine is I'll tell you. Nicotine is a very addictive ingredient that's in all cigarettes. So if you want to just try one, nicotine will make you want more.
Remember, D.A.R.E. is a program that could set good boundaries for your life, and if you don't set good boundaries for your life you regret it.
